About us
The Junk Label was set up in 2005 by Bob Gwilliam and Vikki Meagher, a couple of crazy people with over 40 years combined marketing and I.T experience and a passion for championing good music. Having spent many years performing live music and working in the recording studio, The Junk Label was the new challenge they were looking for.
The Junk Label is a UK based independent record label on a mission to help talented young performers who's music is positive and uplifting to children and young adults. Sorry if that sounds a bit cheesy but hey ho!
Bob and Vikki who both hold diplomas in songwriting say 'We are always looking to better our last achievement and we work very much as a team with all of our artists. Basically we are too old to mess around and we only work with people who are honest and who believe it really is still all about the music - OK?!'
The story so far ..
The first release on the Junk Label was "Every Little Thing" by Chichino which entered the Official UK Indie chart back in February 2007. The single was airplayed on regional radio in the UK and also gained good airplay in America and Australia. This was all achieved by everyone (record label and band) rolling up their sleeves and getting on with the job of promoting the record, its that team effort thing again.
We also pride ourselves on being nice to people (yuk!) and always saying please and thank you (no vomiting please!). We truly believe that if you are pleasant and smile nicely, people are more likely to hold the door open for you to walk through, if you grimace, scowl and shout at people they are more inclined to slam it in your face! Mentioning no names but you know who you are :)
In 2007 we teamed up top Producer Clyde Ward who took our music to the next level. His remixes of the Chichino track It Could Happen To You made number 7 in the Music Week club charts.
Summer Jam by Jax reached number 6 in the club charts in summer 2008. The remixes which include a fabulous Wideboys bassline mix were a big hit on the dance floors, the single is available as a download from iTunes etc.
All our artists are currently recording new material, we have some exciting new releases planned this year .. and a few surprises .. so watch out!
Exposure for unsigned acts ...
As well as working with artists signed to The Junk Label, we also give the best unsigned acts a chance to gain some extra exposure via our websites and newsletters. The Junk Label unsigned Band of the Month competition is the main vehicle for this.
The competition is in its first year and has already proven to be a big attraction, we have had hundreds of entries this year. For more information and how to enter click here
